Clascoterone 1% cream is a topical acne treatment targeting androgen receptors in the skin. Placebo-controlled trials involving males and females reported improvements in acne measures. Hyundai Pharm’s Korea Exchange disclosure states that Winlevi Cream received Korean approval on 29/9/2025 for topical treatment of moderate-to-severe acne vulgaris in people aged 12 and older. Topical treatment also carries warnings about irritation and absorption; prescribing and stock at SEOLREIM Clinic require separate confirmation.

Definitions and how the treatments work

Androgen signalling contributes to sebum and acne inflammation; clascoterone targets receptors locally. The search term “hormonal acne” alone does not establish abnormal blood tests or an individual diagnosis. Acne involves comedones, bacteria and inflammation together, so one ingredient does not resolve every lesion.

03

Potential benefits and limitations

In 2 phase 3 trials published in 2020, lesion counts and assessment measures improved after 12 weeks versus the cream-vehicle control. Complete clearance rates were limited, and the treatment does not immediately remove scars or existing pigmentation. The conditional recommendation in the 2024 AAD guideline does not mean first choice for every patient or superiority to other topical treatments.

04

Suitable candidates and preliminary assessment

Adolescents and adults can consult a clinician about topical treatment choices. Severe nodules or scarring risk warrant assessment of other systemic treatments. Report eczema, sunburn, wounds, a large application area, other irritating products or medications, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and endocrine or kidney disease. The lack of explicit contraindications on the US label should not be interpreted as safety for everyone.

05

Procedure, recovery and preparation

Once an approved product and prescription are obtained, cleanse gently and apply a thin layer to dry skin at the instructed amount and frequency, avoiding eyes, mouth and mucosa. Combine moisturising and photoprotection, and record irritation. Do not apply excessively over large areas or under occlusion; consider skin reactions when combining with retinoids, BPO or other agents. Assess effects after several weeks and confirm prescriptions, storage and follow-up after returning home.

06

Adverse effects, contraindications and precautions

Erythema, itching, scaling, dryness and stinging may occur; severe reactions require stopping or adjusting frequency and medical assessment. The label notes HPA (hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal) axis suppression and potassium elevations observed during trials. Large areas, prolonged use and occlusion can increase absorption. This does not mean everyone needs routine blood testing; clinicians determine testing needs. Human pregnancy and breastfeeding data are limited.

Questions and answers for a medical consultation

The answers below are literature-based consultation questions, not a clinician interview or individual diagnosis; actual medical review remains incomplete.

Q. Can men use it too?

A. Trials included males and females; the Korean approval disclosure covers moderate-to-severe acne in people aged 12 and older. Confirm individual suitability and prescribing availability at examination.

Q. Does a topical medicine have no hormone-related side effects?

A. Topical products also carry absorption-related warnings, so they cannot be described as entirely risk-free.

Q. Can I buy Winlevi while visiting Korea?

A. The Korean approval disclosure was verified, but prescribing and stock at SEOLREIM Clinic and pharmacy supply have not been confirmed. Ask about examination, prescribing, and use and storage after returning home.

SEOLREIM’s principle of consultations and procedures performed personally by the director

SEOLREIM Clinic describes its principles of consultations and procedures performed personally by the clinic director, genuine products, appropriate quantities and attentive care. Consultation starts by distinguishing skin condition and goals, then checking the products and equipment actually available, approved uses, the dose or energy plan, recovery and risks. Signature acne and pore programs distinguish comedones, inflammation and scars to coordinate medication, peeling and laser roles. Korean approval is separate from a clinic’s actual provision. Ask separately about clascoterone prescriptions and stock before booking.
