Should Fraxel and subcision be performed on the same day? Acne scar packages and your Seoul itinerary

Having Fraxel or another fractional laser and subcision on the same day is not better for every acne scar. First confirm the problem each method addresses, then compare pain, swelling, wound care and care after returning home for same-day versus separate treatment. Do not book unnecessary additional treatment or shorten necessary observation simply because your stay is short.
The need for both treatments and their timing are separate decisions
Lasers aim for skin remodeling; subcision aims to release selected tethered depressions. Not every pore, mark or scar needs both. A split-face study of 34 people compared same-day and sequential plans using specific fractional CO2 and subcision. Effects and satisfaction were similar, but patterns of pain, swelling and measured downtime differed. Selecting one recovery measure cannot establish that same-day treatment is faster and safer. This trial involved multiple sessions and did not establish the safety of every Fraxel model, injectable combination or a tourist’s 1 visit. First ask which scars each method targets and why it is needed, then decide timing.
| Consideration | What to discuss for the same day | What to discuss for separate treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Need for both methods | Separate goals for tethering and surface scars | Is the next stage needed after observing one treatment’s response? |
| Current skin condition | Inflammation, wounds, medications and healing risks | Stabilize active acne and reassess after examination |
| Recovery | Overlapping bruising, swelling, redness and wound care | Visit count, recovery at each stage and total duration |
| Travel | Care at your accommodation, follow-up visits and checks before departure | Feasibility of return visits or continuing local care |
| Quotation and support | Components, anesthesia, care and scope of complication management | Terms for unused stages, cancellations and transfer of records |
Definitions and how the treatments work
Fraxel is a brand name; confirm which fractional laser and whether ablation are meant by the actual menu. Subcision uses an instrument to release tethering under the skin. Aggressively releasing every depression or broadly ablating skin to increase effects is not a sound approach.
Potential benefits and limitations
Treatment may aim to improve the appearance, depth and shadows of some atrophic scars. Complete removal, completion in one session and superiority of combination treatment for everyone are not guaranteed. A 2026 comparative study of 30 people also examined adding subcision to a specific CO2 treatment; whether an individual needs both methods is determined separately through examination.
Who can seek a consultation and how suitability is assessed
First classify scar type, tethering, skin tone and active acne. Disclose medications that increase bleeding risk, keloids, infection, herpes, impaired wound healing, previous injectables, threads or surgery, recent medications such as isotretinoin, pregnancy and breastfeeding. A schedule or package name does not establish individual suitability.
Procedure, recovery and scheduling
After examination and baseline photographs, determine the actual method, extent, anesthesia, eye protection, hemostasis, wound care and follow-up plan. Bruising, swelling, tenderness, redness and crusts may persist for several days to weeks or longer, depending on method, intensity and the individual. Whether same-day or staged, do not stop prescribed medication yourself; check post-treatment sightseeing, photography, sun exposure and access to care.

Side effects, contraindications and symptoms requiring medical attention
Hematomas, infection, nodules, irregular contours, nerve or vascular injury, and laser-related burns, PIH, hypopigmentation, persistent redness and scarring are possible. Seek medical care for worsening pain or swelling, hard lumps, pus, fever, delayed healing or skin color changes. Do not interpret swelling as the final effect of filled scars.
Different scar approaches and scheduling choices
| Category | Role and goals | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Fractional laser | Skin-surface and dermal remodeling | Different from directly releasing tethering |
| Subcision | Release of selected tethered depressions | Not necessary for pores, brown marks or every scar |
| Same-day or staged combination | Plan timing when each method is needed | Assess pain, swelling, wounds and ability to attend visits alongside effects |
Questions and answers for a medical consultation
These consultation questions were compiled from the literature and do not represent a clinician interview or an individual prescription. Clinical review of the new article has not yet been completed.
Q. Does same-day treatment finish things faster?
A. Visit count and total recovery differ. Compare pain, swelling, wound care and progress assessment together.
Q. Is subcision mandatory if I book Fraxel?
A. No. The need for each treatment must be explained separately according to scar type and tethering.
Q. Can both fit into a 3-day trip?
A. Length of stay alone cannot establish suitability. Discuss postponing or separating treatment if examination, recovery, follow-up and response to problems after returning home cannot be accommodated.
