Sculptra versus HA fillers: how to compare costs in Korea? Vials, cc and the overall plan
Full translation of the Korean article. Translation checked for completeness, numerical consistency and medical meaning; separate medical review of this translation is pending. Translation updated: 2026-10-28.

Sculptra “1 vial” and HA filler “1cc” are not the same treatment amount, so comparing unit prices alone may change your judgment. Sculptra is a PLLA injectable that is reconstituted, while HA fillers are gels with product-specific properties. Compare target areas, actual product amounts to be used, required sessions, assessment timing and total costs separately.
Before dividing a vial price into a cc price
The liquid volume after Sculptra reconstitution includes the liquid used for preparation. A larger volume does not mean a proportional increase in PLLA amount or volume-correction effects. The same cc of HA filler also does not mean identical properties, duration or results. Check the product package unit, actual treatment extent, whether both sides are included, expected session count and reassessment at every session. If the description only states a number of Sculptra cc, ask which product, how much of it and what plan will be used. List payment for one trip separately from total long-term expenditure, and ask whether additional sessions are reassessed according to progress rather than automatically confirmed. Rapid correction of one area and gradual changes across broad areas also require different times for judging value for money.
| Item to check | What to check for Sculptra | What to check for HA filler |
|---|---|---|
| Product and labeling | Actual product, vials and recorded amount used | Exact product, packaging and recorded amount used |
| Interpreting volume | Distinguish reconstitution volume from original product amount | Check product properties and target areas in addition to cc |
| Correction goals | Which gradual changes will be assessed | What shape and support are needed |
| Sessions and cost | Expected session count and reassessment of whether more are needed | Initial correction, follow-up assessment and additional-cost terms |
| Safety and adjustment | Explanation of delayed nodules and removal limitations | Explanation of vascular risks and limitations of dissolving |
| After returning home | Actual contact and examination pathways and terms for unused sessions | Records, emergency symptoms and access to local medical care |
Definitions and how the treatments work
PLLA is used to induce gradual changes through tissue responses, while HA gels are designed to provide physical support and volume in selected areas. The FDA Sculptra instructions distinguish the reconstituted suspension from the vial. The preparation methods and US indications in this material are not provided as individual Korean prescriptions or a treatment-amount conversion table.
Potential benefits and limitations
Sculptra’s gradual changes and HA filler’s initial shape augmentation differ in assessment timing and goals. Immediate post-injection swelling is not the final result. Long-term observations in a particular Sculptra study do not guarantee effects for every area, session count or single vial. Using more or spreading it more widely is not always better.
Who can seek a consultation and how suitability is assessed
Examination confirms causes of hollowing, wrinkles and volume loss and the desired shape. Disclose previous injectables, surgery, threads or fat grafting, unexplained swelling or nodules, severe allergies or keloid tendency, infection, inflammation, medications affecting bleeding, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Check ingredient- and area-specific contraindications and indications separately; do not assume combining treatments where filler already exists is safe.
Procedure, recovery and scheduling
After examination and assessment of overall facial proportions and areas, obtain an explanation of the rationale for the product, actual amount and session count and the content of consent. Bruising, swelling and tenderness after injections may persist for several days or longer; PLLA-related changes are assessed over weeks and months. Follow individual instructions from the treating clinic for the relevant product, including massage; do not compress sessions into a short trip or compensate by increasing the dose. Allow time for examination and follow-up before flights or important photography.

Side effects, contraindications and symptoms requiring medical attention
Both approaches carry risks of infection, swelling, nodules, asymmetry and rare but serious vascular occlusion. Skin pallor, netlike discoloration, unusual severe pain or visual changes require immediate assessment. Delayed PLLA nodules can persist, and HA-dissolving agents cannot be applied in the same way. The possibility of dissolving HA also does not guarantee no risk or complete restoration. Severe allergy or abnormal breathing requires emergency care.
Do not group everything under “collagen injections”
| Category | Role and goals | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Sculptra PLLA | Planning for gradual tissue responses | Distinguish vials, reconstitution volume and sessions; delayed nodules and removal limitations |
| HA fillers | Gel-based augmentation of shape and support in selected areas | Product-specific properties, vascular risks, overcorrection and dissolving limitations |
| Program names such as Baby Collagen | Check the clinic’s actual components and goals | Do not infer product names, ingredients or doses from a program name alone |
| Postponement or staged correction | Decide on additions based on response and need | Using everything in the quotation is not the treatment goal |
Questions and answers for a medical consultation
These consultation questions were compiled from the literature and do not represent a clinician interview or an individual prescription. Clinical review of the new article has not yet been completed.
Q. Is a larger Sculptra cc volume better value?
A. Reconstitution volume differs from the actual original product amount. Rather than simply dividing numbers, check the product, areas, goals and sessions.
Q. How many Sculptra vials can replace 1cc of HA filler?
A. There is no universal conversion formula. Materials, mechanisms, assessment timing and area-specific plans differ, so examination is needed.
Q. Can remaining vials be used at the next visit?
A. Check the product instructions and the clinic’s packaging and session policies. The cited US instructions specify using a vial for one patient in one session and do not recommend storing or reusing leftover opened product.
