Can Sculptra be added to cheeks with previous filler? A procedure-history checklist before visiting Korea
Full translation of the Korean article. Translation checked for completeness, numerical consistency and medical meaning; separate medical review of this translation is pending. Translation updated: 2026-10-28.

Whether Sculptra can be added to previously filled cheeks requires checking the existing product, location, remaining material and current tissue condition. Do not assume all filler has disappeared merely because time has passed or less volume is visible. Before booking new injections, prepare product records and histories of swelling, nodules and dissolving treatments, and compare adding treatment, staged assessment and postponement.
Turn “my filler was a long time ago” into actual procedure records
Write down remembered clinic names, dates, brands, areas, amounts and any dissolving procedures, and request available records from previous clinics. If the ingredient is unknown, clearly state that it is unconfirmed. HA, other materials and permanent fillers must not be treated as the same injectable. Clinicians distinguish remaining volume from sagging, swelling and tissue irregularity and may consider imaging or other care when needed. Ultrasound does not always identify every product or risk, and this article does not confirm SEOLREIM offers that examination. Routinely dissolving existing filler before a new product is also not an automatic answer.
| Information | What to prepare | When further checks are needed |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Brand, material and treating clinic records | Unconfirmed ingredients or type |
| Location and amount | Areas, sides, injected amounts and previous photographs | Irregularity, asymmetry or remaining volume |
| Response | Swelling, heat, nodules, infection and treatment history | Current symptoms require assessment before additions |
| Dissolving and correction | Timing, reasons, response and any reinjection | Materials not confirmed as HA |
| New goals | Priority among volume, wrinkles and sagging | Unclear reasons for layering over existing material |
| After returning home | Feasibility of follow-up assessment, contact and local care | A schedule making delayed reactions difficult to manage |
Definitions and how the treatments work
HA fillers correct space with injected material, while Sculptra aims for gradual PLLA-based tissue responses. Their actions and correction options differ. US Sculptra instructions explicitly state that safety and efficacy in areas previously injected with other fillers have not been evaluated. Examination alone therefore does not justify presenting this as a validated combination; check the relevant Korean product instructions, materials and tissue condition and consider not adding treatment. No safe interval or mixing method common to all combinations can be provided.
Potential benefits and limitations
Additional volume or wrinkle-appearance changes may be planned, but the approach differs depending on whether current hollowing reflects insufficient material, swelling, sagging or overcorrection. Immediate swelling after Sculptra is not the final change, and correction differs from dissolving HA. There is no general guarantee that adding over previous injectables improves results.
Who can seek a consultation and how suitability is assessed
Adults with clear desired changes and access to existing records and follow-up assessment may seek consultation. Disclose current nodules, persistent swelling, pain, infection, unidentified permanent filler, ingredient hypersensitivity, abnormal scarring tendency, immune diseases, pregnancy, breastfeeding and medications increasing bleeding risk. Assessment of the cause may take priority over new injections.
Procedure, recovery and scheduling
Review existing records, examination and baseline photographs, and obtain explanations of the purpose of additions, excluded areas, product, amount and assessment plan. Necessary tests or separate consultations depend on actual findings. Bruising, swelling and tenderness may be visible for several days or longer, and nodules or delayed inflammation may appear later. Do not increase amounts because of departure dates or layer injections without checking responses.

Side effects, contraindications and symptoms requiring medical attention
Infection, persistent swelling, nodules, irregularity, delayed inflammation and rare vascular occlusion, necrosis or vision damage are possible. Do not independently try massage, steroids or dissolving injections on existing lumps. Severe pain, pallor, netlike discoloration or visual disturbances require immediate assessment; also report worsening heat, pus and fever.
Principles for distinguishing existing material from new injections
| Category | Role and goals | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Existing HA filler | Assess remaining location, volume and symptoms | Whether dissolving is needed is a separate medical decision |
| Existing non-HA or unidentified filler | Check type, persistence and tissue condition | Do not directly apply HA dissolving methods |
| Adding Sculptra | PLLA response and staged assessment planning | No guarantee of universal mixing, a safe interval or immediate reversal |
Questions and answers for a medical consultation
These consultation questions were compiled from the literature and do not represent a clinician interview or an individual prescription. Clinical review of the new article has not yet been completed.
Q. After 1 year, can I assume the old filler is gone?
A. Time alone cannot establish whether material remains. Check the product, areas, examination and records.
Q. Is it safe if everything is dissolved first?
A. There is no such guarantee. Identify the material and current problem and assess the indications and risks of dissolving itself.
Q. Can I not have a consultation if I cannot remember the product name?
A. State that it is unconfirmed and request records from the previous clinic. Depending on examination, additions may be deferred or assessment continued.
Consultation with the SEOLREIM clinic director and signature programs
SEOLREIM Clinic states its principles of physician-led consultations and procedures, genuine products, accurate quantities and attentive care. Consultation starts by distinguishing skin condition and goals, then checking the products and devices actually available, approved indications, dose or energy plans, recovery and risks. Do not assume SEOLREIM’s Baby Collagen is the same product as Sculptra or HA filler either. Check actual components, indications, correction methods and previous injection history separately. A signature program name does not guarantee suitability for combining with remaining material.
Booking, languages, location and guidance for international visitors
Visitors seeking Sculptra Korea or cosmetic dermatology Seoul should prepare previous procedure records that can be translated and communicate desired changes and feasibility of assessment after returning home. Confirm actual support for imaging, coordination with local care, record provision and interpretation separately. SEOLREIM Clinic is on the 11th floor of the Gangnam8258 Building, approximately 1 minute from exit 3 of Gangnam Station. Book through the website’s KakaoTalk consultation, Naver booking or telephone channels. International visitors comparing dermatology clinics in Gangnam, Seoul, near Gangnam Station or elsewhere in Korea should prepare information on medications, allergies, recent procedures and departure dates. When booking, state your preferred language, such as Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Mongolian or Indonesian, and whether interpretation is needed, and confirm the actual scope and cost of support. Continuous consultation availability in each language and same-day procedures cannot be guaranteed. During consultation, also agree on how to contact the clinic about adverse reactions after returning home and the follow-up schedule.
