Should ONDA and body InMode effects be assessed by weight or circumference? A comparison record after returning home
Full translation of the Korean article. Translation checked for completeness, numerical consistency and medical meaning; separate medical review of this translation is pending. Translation updated: 2026-10-28.

Do not assess localized contour goals for ONDA and body InMode using a scale reading alone. Weight, circumference and skin appearance are different measures, and an immediate decrease in circumference is not itself evidence of fat reduction. Establish treatment areas, measurement locations, photographic conditions and assessment timing before treatment, then record weight changes, swelling and other treatments after returning home for interpretation with the clinician.
Align measurement conditions first, whether weight is unchanged or circumference differs
Repeating the same area, location, posture and breathing conditions matters more than one tape measurement. Do not tighten the tape into the skin or brace the abdomen; agree on and record measurement locations with the clinic. Take photographs at the same distance, lighting, angle and clothing in a relaxed posture, avoiding filters, twisting or abdominal tensing. Meals, hydration, bowel movements, menstruation, exercise, weight loss during travel and immediate post-treatment swelling can obscure comparisons. Remote photographs or self-measurements alone cannot establish fat-thickness changes, safety or success. Record visible changes and discomfort symptoms separately.
| Records | Conditions | Limits of interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Treatment extent | Abdomen, flanks, thighs, sides and actual boundaries | Do not compare different areas as the same circumference |
| Weight | The same scale, similar time and records of concurrent weight loss | Cannot be converted into fat reduced by a localized procedure |
| Circumference | Agreed location, posture, breathing and tape pressure | Includes effects of hydration, abdominal bloating and measurement error |
| Photographs and skin appearance | The same light, distance, angle and clothing in a relaxed posture | Do not mistake camera angles or filters for results |
| Progress and other changes | Assessment date, swelling, exercise, medication and other procedures | Do not attribute a change to the device alone |
| Adverse reactions | Pain, blisters, sensation and lumps | Medical care takes priority over a smaller circumference |
Definitions and how the treatments work
For ONDA, check the microwave plan; for body InMode, check RF and other device planning according to the actual platform and handpiece. Nonsurgical procedures targeting local contours and skin appearance differ from weight-loss treatment for obesity, visceral fat or health improvement. The FDA also distinguishes appearance goals of body contouring from obesity and weight loss; US information is not generalized into Korean authorization for every device or area.
Potential benefits and limitations
Circumference and appearance may change for selected local concerns, but not everyone is guaranteed to respond or maintain the same cm change. A 2023 abdominal microwave study of 19 people recorded weight, waist circumference and photographs, but its small-study averages cannot be transferred to individual target numbers or expected results with other devices or areas. Unchanged weight does not establish failure, and an immediate circumference decrease does not establish success.
Who can seek a consultation and how suitability is assessed
Adults with clear goals for localized subcutaneous fat or skin appearance seek consultation according to the actual device’s indications. Unexplained abdominal protrusion, leg swelling, pain or recent rapid weight changes warrant considering assessment of the cause first. Disclose pregnancy, breastfeeding, implanted electronic devices, metal, reduced sensation, wounds, infection, previous surgery, possible hernias and medications.
Procedure, recovery and scheduling
The physician assesses goals, areas, tissues and safety and establishes baseline records, the actual device, handpiece, cooling, pain signals and assessment timing. Redness, tenderness, bruising and swelling may persist for several days or longer, so same-day measurements are not the final assessment. Discuss further sessions or other procedures after reviewing records and responses, rather than aiming to use up remaining energy.

Side effects, contraindications and symptoms requiring medical attention
Burns, blisters, pain, swelling, sensory changes, nodules and irregular contours are possible. Immediately report intense heat or deep pain during treatment; seek medical care for blisters, oozing, persistent tingling or worsening pain. Do not repeatedly compress or massage swollen areas to reduce numbers or excessively dehydrate yourself for measurements.
Similar-looking numbers and different assessment goals
| Category | Role and goals | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | Changes in total body mass | Cannot isolate local fat or skin changes |
| Circumference and photographs | Progress of local contours and appearance | Check conditions, hydration, posture and concurrent changes |
| Clinical assessment | Interpretation through examination, records and necessary tests | Self-measurement does not replace diagnosis of safety or effects |
Questions and answers for a medical consultation
These consultation questions were compiled from the literature and do not represent a clinician interview or an individual prescription. Clinical review of the new article has not yet been completed.
Q. If my weight is unchanged, does that mean no effect?
A. This is not a weight-loss procedure, so weight alone does not determine the answer. Assess target areas and actual progress.
Q. Can an immediate cm reduction be considered fat loss?
A. Swelling, posture, breathing and measurement conditions affect it, so it cannot immediately be interpreted as the amount of fat reduced.
Q. Can results be confirmed just by sending photographs after returning home?
A. Photographs are reference material. Check the actual scope of follow-up consultation and need for in-person care, and understand the limitations of remote assessment.

SEOLREIM’s official ONDA lifting information confirms body application. Ask about the actual ONDA model and areas and currently offered body InMode modes and handpieces during consultation. Genuine products, accurate quantities and attentive care do not guarantee a cm reduction or long-term maintenance for everyone.
