InMode and Radiofrequency Body Contouring: Why Fat Reduction and Skin Firmness Are Different Goals
The Korean original has been medically reviewed; medical review of this translation is pending.

Radiofrequency body contouring is a nonsurgical procedure that uses electrodes and energy to create a thermal response in the skin and subcutaneous tissues, with the aim of improving localized contours and firmness. Fat reduction and skin firmness are different goals. It should not be described as a substitute for weight loss or liposuction.
Key search terms
InMode body treatment, radiofrequency body contouring, fat-dissolving injections, body contouring Korea, medical tourism Korea, Gangnam skin clinic, Seoul skin clinic, Gangnam Station skin clinic, skin clinic Korea
Definition and mechanism
Radiofrequency energy generates heat according to tissue resistance. Devices and handpieces differ in how they target skin firmness, subcutaneous fat or muscle stimulation. Even treatments sharing the InMode name can differ in action and recovery according to the body area and mode. Confirm the actual device and mode.
Potential benefits and limitations
The abdomen, flanks, arms or thighs may appear more defined, or the skin may look firmer. The degree of change depends on fat volume, skin elasticity and weight changes. This is not a treatment for overall weight loss or obesity.
Who may be a candidate
Adults with relatively stable weight and concerns about a localized contour or reduced firmness may seek a consultation. Hernias, skin disease, reduced sensation, circulation problems and metal or electronic implants must be checked. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, treatment should be postponed or assessed separately.
Procedure and recovery
The mode, energy and number of sessions are selected after assessing fat thickness, skin elasticity, asymmetry and health. Heat, pulling or pressure can occur during treatment, followed by redness, swelling, bruising or tenderness. The clinician may advise restrictions on saunas, vigorous massage and strenuous exercise.

Side effects, precautions and contraindications
Burns, blisters, pain, bruising, altered sensation and pigmentation can occur. Contact a medical facility immediately if the skin becomes excessively hot, pain worsens, or blisters or oozing develop. If weight loss is the main goal, nutrition, exercise and a medical assessment take priority.
How it differs from other treatments
Cryolipolysis uses cooling, radiofrequency body treatments use heat, fat-dissolving injections use injected ingredients, and liposuction removes fat surgically. ONDA lifting and InMode body treatments also target different layers depending on the device and mode. The term ‘fat reduction’ does not make these methods equivalent.
Medical Q&A
Q. Will InMode body treatment reduce my weight? A. It aims to improve localized contours and does not replace overall weight loss. Q. How many sessions are needed? A. This depends on the area, fat layer, skin elasticity and device. Q. Is extensive bruising normal? A. Bruising can be temporary, but worsening symptoms or severe pain need assessment.
