RF microneedling inserts fine needles into the skin and delivers radiofrequency energy at or around their tips to target dermal remodeling. Results and recovery depend on needle depth, energy, skin tone and scar depth. Treating active acne must be distinguished from treating scars.

01

Key search terms

RF microneedling, RF microneedling Seoul, pore treatment, acne scars, pore laser, dermatology clinic in Gangnam, dermatology clinic in Seoul, dermatology clinic near Gangnam Station, dermatology clinic in Korea

02

Definition and mechanism

Fine needles deliver radiofrequency energy into the skin to create thermal stimulation in the dermis and encourage collagen remodeling during recovery. Devices differ in needle insulation, depth and energy delivery. Therefore, treatments sharing the name ‘RF microneedling’ do not necessarily have the same protocol or recovery.

03

Potential benefits and limitations

Treatment may aim to improve the appearance of enlarged pores, texture, some atrophic acne scars and fine lines. Deep narrow scars, ice-pick scars and active inflammation may require another treatment or a combination. It does not permanently close pores or remove scars in a single session.

04

Who may be a candidate

People primarily concerned with scars, texture or reduced firmness rather than active inflammation may be candidates for consultation. Active acne, skin infection, flaring eczema or psoriasis, and recent intense sun exposure should first be stabilized. Treatment may be used in darker skin tones, but energy and aftercare need careful planning.

05

Procedure and recovery

After assessing the skin and scar type, the team plans topical anesthesia, needle depth, energy and session number. Redness, warmth, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, dryness and peeling can occur afterward and improve over days to weeks. Avoid strong sunlight, saunas and irritating cosmetics immediately afterward, and maintain moisturization and sun protection.

Side effects, precautions and contraindications

Infection, persistent redness, burns, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation or worsening scars may occur rarely. Disclose active acne or herpes, medications that increase bleeding risk, keloid tendency, immune suppression and previous adverse laser reactions. At-home microneedling devices should not be considered equivalent to medical treatment.

07

How it differs from other treatments

Fractional lasers create microscopic thermal injuries using laser energy; RF microneedling mainly delivers energy through needles. Pore injections deliver ingredients into the skin, while PDT and medication address active acne inflammation and sebum through other mechanisms. Planning should distinguish scar types from current inflammation.

08

Medical Q&A

Q. Is RF microneedling always safer than fractional laser treatment? A. Benefits and drawbacks depend on skin tone and device settings, so that cannot be assumed. Q. Can I receive it during an acne breakout? A. Active inflammation often needs to be controlled first. Q. Is it the same as a home device? A. Penetration depth and infection control differ, so home use cannot replace medical treatment.

SEOLREIM's approach and signature programs

SEOLREIM CLINIC distinguishes sebum-related, elasticity-related and scar-related pore concerns and does not treat active acne and residual scars as the same problem. When RF microneedling is appropriate, the roles and recovery timing of Silky Pore injections, lasers and skin boosters are compared to avoid excessive simultaneous treatment. Direct physician assessment and adjustment to skin responses are emphasized.
