There's one word you hear constantly in Gangnam dermatology clinics these days: "skin booster." Just a few years ago, most people would ask, "What's that?" Now, even first-time patients walk in saying, "I'm here for a skin booster." The category has gone completely mainstream. From regenerative boosters like Rejuran, Juvelook, and exosomes to Mulgwang (Aqua Shine) injections, Baby Collagen, Silky Pore injections, and the so-called "Chanel injection" — there are so many types with so many names that it's perfectly normal for newcomers to feel lost.

Celebrities have played a big role in this trend. In a recent YouTube video, model-turned-TV personality Han Hye-jin said, "When I have a blind date coming up, I get a skin booster two weeks before," describing the result as "a glow filling up from within." Actress Han Ye-seul also shared her annual skincare routine on her channel, explaining, "Every year I get Ulthera, and I usually combine it with regenerative injections like Rejuran or exosomes." Over at Vogue Korea, a fashion director remarked, "After getting Rejuran, my face looks radiant even on the most exhausting days."

These testimonials share a common thread. Lifting procedures like Thermage and Ulthera are about firmness and contour, while skin boosters build the skin's "foundation." If lifting is the structural frame of a building, skin boosters are the interior finishing. No matter how solid the structure is, rough and dull walls ruin the look — and skin works the same way. Firmness alone doesn't make skin look good. Texture, radiance, tone, and hydration all fall under the skin booster's domain, and among these, the one generating the most consultation traffic in my practice lately is Rejuran.

Why Is Everyone Asking for Rejuran?

Rejuran is a skin booster that injects PN (polynucleotide), extracted from salmon DNA, directly into the dermal layer. It's not simply a hydration treatment — it works by boosting the skin's own regenerative capacity. If hyaluronic acid-based Mulgwang injections "add water" to the skin, Rejuran "trains the skin to produce and hold onto its own moisture." That's the easiest way to understand the difference.

This is exactly why Han Hye-jin described it as "a glow filling from within," and why Han Ye-seul called it "great for skin regeneration." Rather than painting radiance on top, Rejuran improves the regenerative environment beneath the surface, which in turn improves tone and texture together. You won't see a dramatic transformation right after the session — but two to three weeks in, patients start saying, "Something looks different, but I can't tell what I did." That natural, undetectable quality is Rejuran's biggest appeal.

Han Ye-seul was also right when she said, "You shouldn't do it too often." Rejuran is typically done in a series of three sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart, followed by maintenance every 6 to 12 months. The key is finding a rhythm that minimizes irritation while maximizing regeneration.

Not All Rejuran Is the Same

One of the most common questions in my clinic is, "There seem to be several types of Rejuran — which one should I get?" Under the Rejuran umbrella are multiple product lines, each targeting different concerns. Since the right choice depends on your skin condition, knowing the difference before your appointment can meaningfully change the outcome.

1) Royal Rejuran — Rebuilding a Compromised Skin Barrier

If your skin flares up every time the seasons change, if you have chronic tightness deep in the skin, or if no amount of cream seems to keep your face hydrated, Royal Rejuran is worth considering first.

This treatment injects salmon DNA-derived PN directly into the dermis to stimulate the regeneration of a damaged skin barrier. Rather than simply refilling moisture, it addresses the root cause of moisture loss — barrier damage itself. When the barrier recovers, water loss slows, and vitality and resilience return to the skin.

It works especially well for people with deep-seated dryness, those whose skin has thinned from frequent procedures, and those whose skin condition fluctuates a lot. Think of it as a treatment that builds up your skin's "stamina."

2) Shining Rejuran — A Premium Line Combining Regeneration with Tone Correction

"I want both better skin health and a brighter tone." More people want both than you might think, and Shining Rejuran is the optimal answer for exactly this concern.

This premium skin booster adds brightening ingredients to the original Rejuran's regenerative power, creating a dual-action design that promotes regeneration while lifting the overall tone. It clears out the factors that dull the complexion — yellow undertones, redness, and lingering pigmentation — while building a luminous glow from within.

If you're often told you "look tired" or your "complexion looks dull," Shining Rejuran may deliver a more noticeable result than Royal Rejuran. Getting regeneration and brightening in a single session is also an efficient choice for busy people.

Royal vs. Shining — Which One Fits You?

If your skin is sensitive and reactive due to a weakened barrier, Royal Rejuran is the better starting point to rebuild the foundation. On the other hand, if your skin condition is reasonably stable but you're bothered by dullness and a lack of glow, Shining Rejuran is a better match. Of course, many patients have both concerns at once, and in those cases it's my job to assess the skin directly and decide which line to prioritize, or whether to combine them.

Han Hye-jin's two-weeks-before-a-date timing isn't arbitrary either. With the Rejuran family, skin regeneration becomes genuinely noticeable around the two-week mark — not right after the injection. It's not a treatment for overnight results; it's the kind you realize worked when, one day, you suddenly catch your skin looking better. Rather than rushing in the day before an important event, schedule your session 2–3 weeks ahead.

As the skin booster market expands, options have multiplied. More choices are a good thing, but they also raise the odds of choosing a treatment that doesn't suit your skin. Instead of blindly following trends, start by identifying what your skin is actually lacking. That judgment is hard to make alone, and it's most accurately reached through consultation with a specialist.
