Members from Southeast Asia are taking over Korea's idol scene: BLACKPINK's Lisa and (G)I-DLE's Minnie from Thailand, NewJeans' Hanni of Vietnamese heritage, and Hearts2Hearts' Carmen from Indonesia. Idols from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and other countries are becoming more than K-pop stars: they are new beauty standards across Asia.
Hundreds of videos about idols' skin uploaded daily to YouTube and Instagram serve as guides for Southeast Asian fans, who visit Korean clinics mentioning their favorites. Last year, foreign medical visitors exceeded 1.17 million, with dermatology accounting for 64%. The Southeast Asian share is growing yearly. Vietnamese visitors through August this year increased 7.8% from the previous year. K-beauty tours are now firmly established as a travel trend in Southeast Asia.
